Your Favorite Easy Ways to Save Money

Mighty Bargain Hunter lists some favorite ways to save money.  There are some good ideas, some you probably already know, but could use reminding.  And check out the last one - you may want to try it! Just don't do your collecting during rush hour.

In terms of , groceries are a big part of our budgets and one of the most important and easy ways to save money.  Some further ideas include:

  • Shop at lower-priced food stores. Convenience stores often charge the highest price.
  • Shop with a list, take advantage of sales, and purchase basic ingredients, rather than pre-packaged components or ready-made items.
  • Compare price-per-ounce or other unit prices on shelf labels. Stock up on those items with low per-unit costs.

I remember reading a save money book a couple of years ago, in which the author shows how much it costs over time to get a Starbuck's coffee and muffin everyday.  It was incredible to see what an easy way to save money it is, just to make coffee at home.  I am talking thousands of dollars.  $3.50 per day for 200 days is $700 per year. Do that for 20 years and you have spent $14,000.   Or over $27,000 if you include simple 6% interest and $41,000 at 10%. Just add up some of these easy ways to save money, like making the coffee at home, and you can put a lot of cash in your account!
